  Preserving the Craft of Jewellery Making

Stapleford Granary offers a unique, fresh and inspiring venue for education, culture, music and the arts, all set in the heart of beautiful rural Cambridgeshire. The Granary offers an inspiring space for a wide range of concerts, talks, exhibitions, courses and events open to all. The converted farm buildings are home to the Association for Cultural Exchange, its’ founding charity whose mission is to encourage and develop cultural understanding.


Your chance to meet ‘Master Jeweller’ – Alexandra Huerga

The Granary is delighted to be partnering with the Central School of Jewellery London (original based in Hatton Garden, London). Alexandra Huerga, offers a fabulous hands-on programme of silversmithing and jewellery making education in a newly equipped studio workshop. Her mission  is clear ‘to help support and preserve the craft of jewellery making within the UK’ and that’s her goal within her dedicated workshops at the granary.

With over 30 years’ jewellery craft experience, unique style and her vivacious character this sets her miles apart from any competition and the true mastery of her craft and passion to teach others really shines through her workshops.

A St.Martins School of Art and Design graduate, and certified Coloured Stones Gemologist (by The Gemological Institute of America). Alexandra has also worked as a goldsmith and master jeweller for various global fashion brands over her career. She has sold her own collections in stores such as Harvey Nichols, as well as in Japan and the USA and now does private commissions.

Jewellery Making Courses April – June Summer Term 2020: Stapleford Granary Cambridge

Jewellery Making Courses:  

8 x week course 10:30am - 13.00pm • Tuesdays: 21st April - 9th June

8 x week course 14.00pm - 16.30pm • Tuesdays: 21st April - 9th June 

Mixed level open workshops: not project lead although projects will be set to enhance skill set, but students are welcome to come along with ideas/designs. 

8 x week course information (2.5hr per session) - £340 total (each course) for 8 weeks (materials not included, supplies can be purchased from tutor & suppliers list will be made available)

Jewellery Taster Day:

Explore the world of jewellery making and get creative on this one day  beginners workshop where you will make a silver single stone set ring or some earrings.

Saturday 9th May •  10:30am - 16:30pm  -  £150 (all materials included / suitable for all levels)

Open Workshop Day:

Tuesday 14th July • 10.30am-16.30pm  - £120

This Open Workshop is not project lead and students will be developing their own designs - suitable for intermediate level

Silversmith Courses: 

4 x week course •  10:30am – 16.30pm silver box making • Wednesdays: 22nd April -13th May

4 x week course •  10:30am - 16.30pm salt and pepper set  making
• Wednesdays: 20th May - 10th June

Silversmithing fee £450 total (each course) for 4 weeks (includes materials)

Silversmithing Taster Days- Spoon Making

Enjoy a day exploring different techniques and skills in the making and designing of your own spoon. A great idea for a Christmas gift too!
